TO04 Bioinformatics Research Scientist at LanzaTech in Auckland, New Zealand

LanzaTech has developed a proprietary platform using a biological process for producing lowest-cost fuel ethanol in any industrialized geography, at a much larger scale than is currently being envisioned elsewhere. Specifically, our plan is to develop an ethanol production process that can be retrofitted to industrial facilities to generate ethanol from the carbon monoxide component of waste flue gases.


Position Summary:

The Bioinformatics Research scientist will be responsible for analyzing genomics, transcriptomics or other high-throughput data. Another aspect of the job is to specify and implement bioinformatic tools for analyzing and modeling metabolic pathways to guide genetic engineering projects. The work will be done in close collaboration with wet-lab scientists generating the data and providing comprehensive knowledge of metabolic pathways.

Position Requirements

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Systems Biology or related field
  • Some industry experience preferred
  • Experience with processing of NGS data
  • Experience with Omics data analysis
  • Experience with pathway modeling
  • Some experience in writing scripts and relational databases is preferred
  • Solid background in metabolic physiology or related disciplines an advantage
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in an multidisciplinary team
  • Monitor emerging technologies to accelerate research
  • Understanding of statistical data analysis
  • Expertise working in UNIX/Linux and Windows environments
  • Actively contribute and adhere to all safety standards and practices
